Who won the 2024 Ledgestone Open in FPO?
1st - Holyn Handley at 29 under par
Tied 2nd - Lisa Fajkus at 22 under par
Tied 2nd - Hailey King at 22 under par
Quote from the champion: “The last few months, since I’ve come close so many times, has really been about learning how to handle the last day,” Handley said. “It takes a little bit of extra energy and focus to stay in the right mindset on the last day versus the other days. On the other days you can tell yourself you still have plenty of holes left, but when you’re starting to run out of holes, that’s a different mindset. I’ve gotten to experience that a lot.”
Game-changing moment: Handley bogeyed Hole 6 in Round 1, birdied it in Round 2 and eagled it in Round 3, so it had displayed the ability to impact her round in many different ways. During the Final Round, King had come out firing and was able to cut Handley’s lead down to three heading into Hole 6. Handley kept her drive and second shot in the fairway and got to Circle 2 with her approach. Knowing momentum was building in King’s favor, she saw an opportunity to swing things back to her. She calmly stepped up and banged her mid-Circle 2 putt to all but slam the door on any challengers.
Summary of the Final Round: King came out in attack mode while Scoggins fell quickly off the pace, making King the lone challenger to Handley down the stretch. King birdied the first four holes with park jobs on Holes 3 and 4 to swing the momentum in her favor, but Handley’s aforementioned birdie on Hole 6 resulted in a two-stroke swing to reestablish a comfortable lead. From there, it was cruise control from Handley. The Discraft star’s only mistake of the round came on Hole 12 where her drive found the OB golf green. Further down the leaderboard, Cadence Burge shot an 8 under par round to climb up six spots into the Top 12, the biggest jump of the day.
