Amateur Challenge A Tier to be ran alongside DGPT Tour Championship

Ledgestone CEO Nate Heinold, in conjunction with Bedford County and the City of Lynchburg, is excited to announce that the Ledgestone team will be running an Amateur only A Tier alongside the DGPT Tour Championship at the end of the DGPT season in 2025. This Amateur Challenge A Tier will take place October 17th through the 19th in Lynchburg, Virginia and Bedford County, Virginia. This announcement is the penultimate and 11th in our series of announcements titled the Twelve Days of Ledgestone

With the day 11 announcement, Ledgestone is doing a special sale exclusively at the Ledgestone retail website where all orders, regardless of order size, get free shipping. Ledgestone typically only provides free shipping to orders above $70. This sale will only apply today, December 19th, at the Ledgestone retail website.

The Ledgestone events team is excited to release the logo for the 2025 Amateur Challenge at the DGPT Tour Championship. This event is being heavily supported by Bedford County and the City of Lynchburg. Both of these key partners successfully supported Ledgestone’s efforts in running the 2024 PDGA Pro World Championships in 2024. “The folks in Lynchburg and Bedford County are top notch and we are absolutely thrilled to be working with them again in 2025. The hospitality shown to the players and spectators at the 2024 Worlds event was outstanding, and we are excited to continue to partner both with Lynchburg and Bedford County moving forward,” said Heinold. Discraft will also be supporting the event and will be the presenting sponsor.

This event will not be a typical Amateur A Tier event. This event will replace the longstanding Battle for Bedford B Tier event, as Ledgestone will work closely with prior TD Gordon Merck, who will become the Assistant TD for the A Tier event. This event has had over 400 players in the past and Ledgestone will be looking to improve upon that success. “The passion exhibited by the disc golfers in Lynchburg and Bedford County was evident when we ran Worlds in 2024. We are excited to work with Gordon, the folks at Foundation Disc Golf and other local partners to run a successful DGPT Tour Championship and also provide an elevated Amateur experience with this A Tier,” said Heinold.

That amateur experience will provide a unique opportunity to play the courses that the DGPT Tour Championship will be played on during the event. The course schedule is still being drafted, but both Ivy Hill and New London will be used during the Amateur Challenge. “Initial plans for the event will see us use Ivy Hill on Saturday and Sunday during the DGPT Tour Championship, which means Ivy Hill will be part of the event on Friday for the Amateur Challenge. New London will be used on Thursday and Friday for the DGPT Tour Championship, which means we will be able to incorporate New London into the course schedule for the Amateur Challenge on Saturday and Sunday,” finished Heinold.

The events team plans on using 3 additional courses in the area, with an event capacity of over 500 players. The Ledgestone team expects the course schedule to be released in early 2025, with plans for MA1 and a few other divisions to play Ivy Hill on Friday. New London, which was recently redesigned by Paul McBeth with construction currently underway on the new layout, will be used Saturday and Sunday by multiple divisions, including MA1, MA2 and more. MA1 will play the MPO layouts at both Ivy Hill and New London, while other divisions will play a shorter layout at those courses. The other 3 courses that will be used for the Amateur event will be announced in early 2025. “The goal of this Amateur Challenge event is to simulate the DGPT experience as much as possible. In addition to playing some of the courses that the DGPT Tour Championship will be using, players in this event will be treated to an elevated hospitality experience, receive an insane players pack, be able to spectate the DGPT Tour Championship at a reduced rate, play for a huge Amateur payout and more!” finished Heinold.

Registration for the Amateur Challenge at the DGPT Tour Championship will open in late Spring of 2025, with more information posted in February 2025. Additional information about the event will be posted to Disc Golf Scene and announced on the Ledgestone IG page.
