PDGA Pro Worlds to Return to Kensington Metropark

PDGA Pro Worlds to Return to Kensington Metropark

It’s been 25 years since the PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships took place at Kensington Metropark. The 2000 event, won by Ken Climo in the MPO division and Juliana Korver in the FPO division, saw the introduction of the famous Kensington Toboggan course, originally put in the ground by Discraft owner Jim Kenner specifically for this event. Now, in 2026, the event will return to Kensington Metropark. Today, the PDGA announced that Milford, Michigan will be the host of the 2026 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships at Kensington Metropark. The dates for the 2026 event will be August 26th through August 30th

The 2026 event will take place at the famous Toboggan Course and at the Black Locust South course. The Black Locust South course will undergo several changes for this event, including the addition of 5 new holes across from the Black Locust property. These 5 holes will be located near the Martindale Beach area and will be on the grounds of the original Kensington course that is no longer in operation. The South course will also undergo some changes that will be specifically for Worlds. The Worlds layout at this property will be over 10,000’, playing to a par 64 with several signature holes.

“We are grateful that the PDGA Operations staff has placed trust in our team to once again run the pinnacle event in our sport. We are incredibly excited to return the PDGA Pro World Championships to Kensington Metropark,” said Nate Heinold, Ledgestone CEO. The 2026 event will be the third time the Ledgestone team has run the PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships, after successfully running the event in 2019 and 2024. This will also be the third different venue and location that the Ledgestone team has hosted Worlds at, with Peoria, IL hosting in 2019 and Lynchburg, VA hosting in 2024. “The 2026 event will follow very closely to how we ran the 2019 Pro Worlds in terms of our course setup. With the 2019 event, we took a very popular Northwood course and revamped the layout to add 5 new holes to be suitable for Pro Worlds. With Black Locust, the current South course is a great property but not up to standards for Worlds, so we are adding 5 new holes and tweaking some holes on the South course to deliver a Championship course worthy of inclusion in the World Championships. We are very grateful for the support of the Kensington Metropark leadership team and appreciate the faith they have put in our team to deliver this event,” finished Heinold.

The Ledgestone team will be working closely with several partners on the ground, including Kensington Metropark, the Detroit Sports Commission and the Livingston County Convention and Visitors Bureau. The Ledgestone team plans to take all of the things that worked well in Lynchburg in 2024 and expand upon those concepts for this event.

“The Detroit Sports Commission is thrilled to learn that the 2026 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships will be hosted at Kensington Metropark in Milford,” said Dave Beachnau, Executive Director of the Detroit Sports Commission. “Metro Detroit proudly stands as one of the nation’s premier disc golf destinations, making our community the ideal setting for this prestigious championship. In collaboration with the Livingston County Convention & Visitors Bureau, this event provides an incredible opportunity to welcome players and fans from around the world, showcasing the deep passion of our disc golf community and the exceptional hospitality of our region,” finished Beachnau.

“We are so excited to welcome the 2026 PDGA Professional Disc Golf World Championships to Kensington Metropark. We take pride in knowing how great the disc golf courses at our parks are, and how much local players enjoy them. It is awesome that professional players from around the world are going to get to experience that firsthand. We can’t wait to show players everything Southeast Michigan and the metro Detroit area has to offer,” said Amy McMillan, Director, Huron-Clinton Metroparks.

“Disc Golf is different in Southeast Michigan. We expect a disc golf record crowd in 2026 and cannot wait to show off Kensington Metropark to the disc golf world,” said Heinold. The 2026 event will be hosted exclusively at Kensington Metropark, with both courses less than 4 minutes down the road from each year. The top professional competitors will compete over 5 rounds of competition, with 3 rounds at Toboggan and 2 rounds at Black Locust. Tickets will go on sale in early 2026 exclusively at Disc Golf Scene.
