Calvin Heimburg shot the hot score in Round 3 with a 9-under par.
Quote from the leader: “This course is crazy because I felt like I played better today than yesterday and I shot one stroke worse,” Wysocki said. “It’s tough. It can show its teeth at any time. Right when you think it’s smooth sailing you run into a big number or a bad kick. I played pretty consistently. Six or seven [under par] is something I’m more than happy with and I’m in the lead so I’m pumped about that.”
“I’m excited to get another crack at Eureka. I felt like I played a good round in the first round out there and let a couple strokes slip away. It’s going to be a battle down the stretch.”
Ricky Wysocki contemplates his next shot on the tee of hole 18 after a tough bogey. He would go on to par the hole and maintain a 1-stroke lead heading into the final round.
Game-changing moment: The hardest hole on tour is hole 12 at Northwood Black and it had something to say about the results in Round 3. Wysocki started 6-under par through seven holes and rode that score all the way to hole 12. His tee shot on the 1,050-foot par 5 went well and his second shot stayed clean, but his third shot kicked off the fairway. Wysocki got aggressive from the rough and was punished for it, limping away from the hole with a double-bogey and dropping back to second place.
Standout Stat: Northwood Black requires converting scramble shots and making putts. Andrew Marwede and James Conrad did exactly that. They both saved par or better 100% of the time they left the fairway and made 100% of their Circle 1 putts to back it up. Marwede moved up nine spots into 15th place and Conrad slid up seven spots into 26th.
Highlight of the Day: The course record was broken today by Calvin Heimburg. Innova’s star man birdied 11 of the 18 holes to climb up 40 spots and into the top 15. His final score of 9-under par bests the previous marks of Paul McBeth and Kyle Klein at 8-under par.
